Kangaroo Car
I am not the best with the technical stuff so I appologise if this is not very clear but I thought it may help someone out there having a similar problem.
A few weeks ago my GTI started playing up. It was spluttering and shaking, jumping like a kangaroo i thought it would be a fuel line problem as I have recently replaced all the lines or maybe the ignition coils as I had noticed similar posts on the site stating this could be the problem. Anyway after I toed the car home it was fine, well for about a week and then it started again I managed to get home this time so had a look under the bonet and noticed that when the accelerator was pressed and the jumping began that there were sparks where the clutch cable made contact with some of the electrical wiring. I thought this maybe the problem shorting something out so I fitted a rubber sleeve over the worn area to seperate the two line and hey presto it worked a treat no more jumping. It could have been a costly job trying to find the problem so thought it may help someone else who is having a similar problem.
Hope this helps someone. Ade

Could have been an expensive one if i hadnt noticed the wiring. It is bizarre though so rule nothing out. I dont need to tell you hairy these motors have been doing the buisiness for a while now. Ade

Re: Kangaroo Car
The fault as you describe it may be cured, but I'd be very worried about why it was sparking. There is no electrical connection through the clutch cable itself, its only a mechanical thing. I think it has a plastic hook at the pedal end, and a rubber block at the gearbox end, which should insulate it from everything else.
The cable was probably earthed where the sleeving had worn through, but I'd have a good look for another wire touching it somewhere else.
