Ive had enough of K-Jet

Right i'm now at the point where i want to pull my hair out  :banghead: with the K-Jet system on my 1.8 GTI and have decided to buy a pair of dellorto 45's off a mate of mine and do away with the K-jet, so what i need to know is what is needed to get them running on an injection car ie. will i still use my tank, fuel pump, lines? i also need to know where to buy an inlet manifold for them. Any information would be a great help.

Nothing wrong with K-Jet - you just need to make sure its working properly! You'll probably have more troubles getting the carbs working properly, after all you have jetting to worry about. I don't fancy the cost of the manifolds & carbs either….

You really just need someone who knows the K-jet system to look over it, its not very complex. Replacing EVERY bit wont even cost a lot.

Stick with it, its great once sorted.

Ive had a few problems recently but i still quite like it, just get to know it.

What problems are you having?

I had a rusty filler neck and water in the tank so far I?ve/had replaced in this order

Injectors
Fuel Filter
Filler neck
Tank
Fuel Filter
Metering head

The car is almost impossible to start and once running will run smooth at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle but anymore than that it will misfire and splutter.

I?ve spoke with Crazyquiff after Paul_c said it my be just as much trouble getting carbs running and ordered a 2nd hand WUR and 4 injector fuel lines as he said it may be possible the rubber inside one has split and blocking the flow when put under load.

I?ve also just taken the 5th injector out and there is no fuel coming out when started from cold just a tiny dribble.

A wire brush and some fuel cleaner should do the trick for the 5th injector.

This page on mechanical fuel injection is very handy to gain an understanding of each component and how it works. This should help trouble-shooting immensely.

Then have a crack at Prowler's Injector Test, as it's commonly referred to on here.

That should help you diagnose your problem more accurately.

Well i glad to say that after fitting a WUR and fuels lines from Crazyquiff and a new set of injectors the car runs like a dream.

When i removed the old WUR there was a solid lump of rust that covered the mesh filter and the line from the metering head was full of it, was a wonder the car even ran at all
