Help with Thermotime Switch/Fuel Pump Relay issue

I need some expert advice on a issue I currently have with my Mk1 Campaign. I have a cold starting issue. Before I go into that it has recently been worked on by a garage who did a thorough check on all the fuel components - set the idle/mixture etc. Picked car up on Sat and drove home - no issues. Started fine on a really, really cold day!!

Sunday morning it struggled to start again. In the end got it got going but it idled low (about 500 rpm). After about 10min all fine and ran OK. Warm start is fine.

So tonight I took the Cold Start Valve (CSV) off from the inlet manifold (as per Haynes manual) and bridged the switch on the Thermotime Switch (TTS). Then tried to start car (with HT lead disconnected). Nothing - not a drop of fuel from the CSV.

OK, so what I did then was try and starti t again, with a multimeter across the terminals of the plug instead of bridging it - 0V.

So, according to the Haynes manual, it's a fuel pump relay issue. Thing is, the relay primes the Fuel Pump OK - I can hear the pump priming.

Questions;

1. Has anyone seen an issue where the relay works OK for the pump but not the TTS - assume this is possible?
2. If not - has anyone had a similar issue and what was the solution?

Any other checks I could do before splashing out on a new Fuel Pump Relay.

Thanks
 :wink:

Bad earth from the CSV? Doesn't sound like the relay, more a question of finding a break in the wiring.

OK - update on my first post.

Bridging the TTS plug does nothing! I read the Haynes manual incorrectly. Instead, last night I connected the TTS, left the CSV in a jar, turned her over and bingo - fine spray of fuel for about 6secs. So the TTS and CSV are OK.

Next, I replaced CSV (with new gasket) and reconnected HT lead - car just would not start! Took out spark plugs and they had fuel on them - cleaned and dried them all - put back in - cranked again. Engine turned but would not start. Checked one plug again and did have fuel on it. Add the fact that fuel pump is priming (from sound) and CSV/TTS all OK I'm thinking ignition fault now?  :dontknow:

Anybody have any other pointers? Going to check spark from plug tonight to see if coil is stuffed.

Any help most welcome!!  :D  :D

Thanks
