help on fuel distributor

cann anyone tell me why a fuel distributor from a 86 gti cabby will not run on a 87 gti cabby  :dontknow:
the one that is on the 87 cab has got a seized  adjustment screw on it  :banghead:  , the 86 cab runs okay so you would have thought they would be compatable ??

Unlucky - appears the only change to the fuel metering head on the cabby DX was from 049 133 481 LX to 049 133 481 BX in mid 86. You must have got one of each, although surprised there's that much difference.

I'm sure they are interchangeable - I have my original and 2 other spare ones (one off an early tin top) in the garage somewhere, and the one fitted at the mo on the GTI cab. They all ran ok - this was from when I had the rough running that every 'expert' said was the metering head, but turned out to be the injectors…..I will dig them out and check part numbers, differences etc later when grand daughter is out of the way….

Owning a Mk1 cabby is a vertical learning curve…

do you think if i change the injectors over will it make any difference ? the 86 cab fuel dizzy was working okay so cant work out any reason why it doesnt work on the 87 cab, except for the bolt pattern being slightly different ( 2 top bolts instead of 3 )

Worth swapping injectors over to see if that makes a difference, although might be a good idea to try Prowlers injection test first. Assume the car will not start? When you say seized adjustment screw what part do you mean? To adjust the metering head valves you need pressure gauges etc - it's quite finely set up.

the adjustment screw is a adjusted by a long allen key tool it sits on a float type thing so when you adjust it you cannot put any down pressure on the allen key , did i read that you have a few spare ones around, if so how much for a working one ?

Wasn't me?

You're on about the co/mixture adjustment for the air-mass sensor plate loacted in the airbox. The metering head/fuel distributer is the metal block bolted to the top of it and controlled by the sensor plate.

Have you tried swapping over the just the airbox and keeping the same metering head? The adjustment of the sensor plate is quite delicate and it is possible for it to get damaged. I'd imagine that sensor plate would need a bit of adustment if moved from one car to another as they probably bed-in in different ways over time. Haynes does explain basic set up with a feeler gauge.

Have you opened your old airbox up and looked from inside as to why the mixture screw might be jammed?
