Get rid of little blow
So all ok, the only thing that as come to my mind is the original downpipe design, "clamps".
Do these downpipes give that commonly known noise i hear on other mk1 and mk2 golfs, can i get rid of it?
If so would changing to a gti manifold solve this, would a gti manifold fit, and if so can i just replace the exhaust manifold and connect direct to the original mid box etc without any mods?
Thanks

am i right in thinking your engine is a big block originally from an '82 or summat?
gti system should bolt straight on.
are you on about the horrible c clips joiining the manifold to downpipe and blowing from that area? worst design ever
a gti 4 branch should bolt straight onto your head, and join straight up to the remainder of your system.
cheers

Anyone know of a place manchester area NOT AWESOME, who can show me a setup that will fit on mine and fit it also whilst i wait, like i say it is a family car and can not afford to leave it for days whilst they wait for parts blah blah, experienced owners, dont want someone who doesn't give a toss about the car and will treat it as i do, may sound fussy git, but i am sure there are others here who understand what i mean,. specially as alot of other mk1's on here are alot better than mine.
Best wishes

Had this before and got it again!
I took the manefold off the engine and saw that over time the exhaust gases had leaked through the gasket, but at such pressure that they had drilled grooves in the manefold.
Replacing the gasket would not be enough, so i sent the manefold to the engineer who skimmed it back flat…
Connected it all up, new gaskets and WOW!!!
My car was now a rocket ship which sounded SHWEET!!!
Just bought a new 1.8 GTI Cab….and got the same issue…
Going to do the same thing as before, but will probably re-new which a nice S/S number soon….
Hope this helps?
Thanks
