G40 exhaust on a driver?

I've got hold of a polo G40 exhaust manifold and it fits straight on my block! It's bigger bo0re outlet and is infinately smoother inside.

Has anyone ever done this before and if so can I utillise any other parts of the system or will it all need to be custom from the manifold back?  :dontknow:

I always thought that the manifold off of a G40 would fit the head of a 1272, and you would probably see an improvment in bhp if you have a custom exhaust made up?

Use a GTi system, the G40 manifold and downpipe. Remove the cat and make a bridging pipe from the new end of the downpipe to the system. I did this between a GT downpipe and GTi system. Quite easy to do. I can get you a picture if it helps.

It does fit, but you're better off with the G40 pipe as it's bigger, although both are 50mm after the cat. Have a look at this page in the Bosal catalogue. the GT and G40 are at the bottom. If you are prepared to buy a new downpipe, the earlier mk2 GT has a non-cat part, no. 783-291. It's shorter than the later part, but that doesn't matter for you.
