Is it ok to run unleaded fuel in a 4-star mk1? Or would would it be better to run super unleaded.
Would it effect the performance?

Yes - but not for full throttle or high speed cruising
Yes - Super unleaded is better
Yes - in that you'll be pinking/knocking before full performance is reached
The above assumes its a GTI. Non GTIs can all run regular unleaded with no differences.

Thanks for the reply paul_c.
I'm running on the 4-star, and would like to continue using it. But i can't find any other petrol station except sainsburys that sell it!
Does anyone know of a petrol station that has 4-star?
What is everyone else running?.. 4star / unleaded /super unleader on the GTIs?

I am guessing you don't really mean 4-star, but LRP (leaded replacement petrol), since 4-star is only now obtainable for racing use. Super unleaded is fine, since around 1970 all VWs have been able to run on unleaded - they don't need to have the TEL (tetra-ethyl lead) in the fuel to lubricate things.
