Brakes, gearbox, exhaust, fuel system, engine electrics are all different + lots of other bits. An engine mount needs removing and rewelding the list goes on and on.
1983 Mars Red 1.8 Golf GTI
1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet
The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

This gets asked a lot. Unless you have both complete cars and 1100 body is mint and GTI mechanics are ace just buy a GTI its prob cheaper and millions times less hassle.

The tanks differ depending on age - there are 2 shapes. Pick a GTi tank from a Scirocco or Golf of the same age.
Yep, as above. The Scirocco always used the underpinnings of the Golf, while there are differences there's a lot in common, one of these is the fuel tank. So a Mk1 carb Scirocco tank is the same as a Mk1 Golf 74-86 carb; Mk1 FI Scirocco same as Golf GTI/GLi up to approx 86 too. Around 1986-1988 (it varies across all models and batches built, I think) they changed the Golf (now cabby only) and Scirocco tanks to a different shape, and to include a lift pump in the tank itself.
