fuel problems helP!

Hi guys

Having a problem with my GTI its not starting and once i do get it running with a bit of fuel down one of the plugs its running on 3 alot until i have taken it for a good drive then its generally running nicely. My fuel pump is very loud and wines alot and dosent feel like its building enough pressure could this result in problems with getting it to run at first???

I doubt it - sounds like a problem with the cold start valve, thermo time switch or the associated wiring.

The cold start valve fires for about 8 secs when you first crank from cold.

Ye its odd becaus when i have been starting it up to warm it up over the last few months as i have been restoring it and its been fine and running very sweetly. For some reason its just decided it dosent want to start anymore over the last few days without giving it a bust of life with a bit of fuel. Then once its started its been running on 2 or 3 and then cleared itself out after around 15 mins and will re start no problem. Seems to be running too ritch too as the plugs are very black could be through not been driven though. It seems to be when its been started from cold. Any tips on the best way to check this out?
