fuel issues

Hello guys just thought id pick your brains for suggestions. On my way to the beach saturday full throttle on a bumpy b road in fifth, cars flying; get held up behind a lovely old lady and go to safely pass to find it kangarooing as soon as i apply any throttle. My guess was the bumpy road my have thrown some rust from the tank into the system. AA man reckons the fuel pumps had it which sounds like a good enough suggestion as its very noisy and feels a bit rough when running. Basically it idles fine and soon as you give it throttle it coughs and splutters and is blatently starved of fuel,is there a filter in the pump itself(83 gti tintop).Any suggestion to what i could look for would be great.Thanks.

try the cheap and easy checks first.
has it always run like this? got gradualy worse?
i'd check co first. 3mm allen key job.

Do prowlers injector test first and report back

it sounds like the new pump is either fitted incorrectly or not working. check the wiring or maybe retro fit the old pump. it does sound like fuel starvation but could be electrical. fuel pressure can be affected by faulty metering head or wur. could however just be running lean.
could be weak spark, have you checked plugs? they should indicate if you're running too rich or lean. checked cap? leads?

When you bridge the two large contacts on the relay the pump should run all the time.  See prowlers injection test for more details.

Can you hear the pump run?

FUEL PUMP

I've wired the battery directly to the pump and established i drove 70 miles and forked out the best part of a hundred quid for a pump that dont work :banghead: Gutted.Oh well, will get onto them and get a replacement sorted and try again.Wooders its true what you say about the checking the easy stuff first but im 99% sure its the pump and all the plugs and leads etc. are all pretty much new after engine conversion. Prowlers injector test looks very helpfull but again im sure its the pump and dont really want to go to that trouble until i got the new pump fitted;but i will do this soon once pump is sorted. Thanks for your help guys!!! Appreciate it.I'll let you know if the pump does the trick and if not you can both say i told you so   .Cheers.
