Fuel gushing out of filler pipe

Couple of weeks ago my mk1 was parked on a camber so the filler neck was leaning into the curb. The tank was full and it was a hot day.  Petrol was literally pouring out of the filler neck and down the side of the body.

Any ideas?  :dontknow:

I'd say, you have a nice rusty hole in the filler neck, very common bud, easy replaced, get one from gsf
Pete

Nope,  brand new filler neck, fitted it couple months ago.  Petrol was pouring out of the petrol cap.

How severe was the slope?????????? Unless you'd brimmed it, then parked on a severe slope, it just wouldn't happen.

The road has quite a camber, that is the bottom of doors hit the pavement if opened wide.  Still, it doesn't seem extreme.  Must have brimmed it then.  Oh well Live and learn.

The other possibility is the fuel you filled up with, was very cold (in an underground storage tank?) and then it heated up and expanded once in your tank.

Basically, don't brim the tank, unless you're about to set off on a long drive (so you'd use up the couple of litres or so in the filler neck).

That sounds logical.  It was a very sunny day and the car is black.  Lesson learned.

Thanks Paul
