All myth. The most significant way to improve fuel economy is to drive more gently, slow down, change up earlier and use less acceleration. And check the engine's in tune.

You will do harm , and in fact probably more good running an odd dose of 'Redex fuel system cleaner' in the car to help keep the system clean .
