Filler neck replacement - whats involved?
Is welding involved?
Never having looked at this before I'm not really up on how it all fits together. From some posts it sounds like the filler neck is not welded in place, just held in place by connecting pipe and mounting screws?
Anyone care to enlighten me on this one?
What other clamps / pipes / mounting bits should I replace at the same time? Wnat to make sure I have everything to hand I need if I decide to do this.
Also if Rich (Crazyquiff) is reading this - do you have any genuine VW SA filler necks in at the mo?
Off to go "fishing in my fuel tank to see if there is any crud lurking in there  .

Yes - filler necks in stock - www.golfmk1.co.uk
These are not welded - they are held with a screw in the inner wheel arch about halfway down, three screws behind the fuel cap, big hose at the bottom and smaller breather at the top.
You will need to release the breather valve also which is behind the wheel arch liner - get plenty of WD40 on the bolt at the top as it usually rips out the mount cos it's seized!

Will hopefully be checking out the fuel tank / filler neck by the end of the weekend. If it looks at all suspect I will renew. In some ways I would be happier if it was something like this rather than a fuel pipe job!
