exhaust manifold to downpipe bolts

having removed and refitted exhaust pipe it has been ok for a while but now the nuts have worked loose and some have dropped off . i did tighten the nuts so why has this happened ? would locktight stop this happening again or would the heat just melt it ? what should i do, or should i just tighten them again ? cheers strength of a teddybear jim.

Use new NUTS ETC from your local VW dealer [cheap as well]

Part numbers are

 Exhaust Gasket 4 pieces : 028 129 589
Studs x8 for the cylinder head to manifold: 044 411 5
Nuts brass x8 for above studs : 900 850 01
Studs x6 10mm for down pipe to manifold: 044 520 3
Nuts x6 for above studs for down pipe : 102 090 05

You will not have the same problem again

Cheers…….

I used stainless steel on mine with coppaslip..I used two nuts on each stud to:

  1. Lockem
  2. keep the otherwised exposed thread on the studs from rotting away and thus make 'em v difficult to get them off.

Brass nuts would be also be ok (even preferrable) but I would use long nuts that covers the exposed thread as above.

I also used coppaslip on the gasket faces
