exhaust manifold gaskets

does anyone know which side up these go?

is it shiny side on the head?  :dontknow:

anyone?

If you look again at the gasket you will see they only go one way , the manifold is 'D' shaped so is the gasket . D to D , if you fit these the wrong way round you will leave a gap and it will leak . Shiny or not they only work one way .  

Have another look and you will see what i mean      :wink:

i looked at them and they certainly not symmetrical, i can hear what your saying makes perfect sense cheers chudd, i'm a novice and just thought i'd ask the question

i just been cleaning all the mateing surfaces up and lubing all the threads on the down pipe flange, should be up and running soon.

chudd fitted them D to D and it ends up that two are facing one way and the other two are facing the other.

please tell me this isnt right

Sounds about right , when fitted gasket does not cover any exhaust or engine opening just seals it . Easily checked with mirror and finger .

I have seen these gaskets fitted incorrectly , it will leak like mad on start up .

she starts and sounds lovely, just the smoke was a bit worrying from the bay!!!

i gonna give her a good run in the morn before the traffic gets busy.

my cuz said that the new gaskets smoke a bit until they are bedded in

i hope he's right.

Smoke after any engine work is normal until the oil finger prints etc etc burn off .
