Control Pressure Regulator( (WUR) Resistance

I'm trying to diagnose a problem with my car that I think is caused by the control pressure regulator  (aka Warm Up Regulator). (car runs ok for a few minutes then gets poor performance. If stopped and left for a while it won't restart, leave it to cool down and it starts ok but the symptoms reoccur)

The Haynes manual states that the resistance of the heater element should be between 16 and 22. Mines 24 so I assumed that this was faulty, although 2 ohms is hardly much outside the top of the range.

However…. I was looking online for a replacement unit and looked on volkswagen.msk.ru at a kjet 8v document. In this document it's stated the resistance should be between 20 and 26 ohms. Maybe the online manual is for a US model :dontknow:

1.Which is right? 16-22 or 20-26?

2. Where can I get a cheap replacement? I'm not paying VW just short of ?260 and I'm loathed to pay GSF just short of ?200. (I have a loathing of GSF after a run in with them a while back)

3. Is the wur from a 16v engine the same as for an 8v engine?

Any help most appreciated :)

Best bet would probably be a known good working second hand WUR - either try and borrow one to test or ask the usual suspects about buying secondhand. Just make sure if you buy secondhand that they will swap / refund if its a duffer.

I had a duff WUR a while back now, and if memory serves the only failsafe way of testing is measuring the fuel pressure readings following the procedure described in Haynes. You will need a fuel pressure gauge, but its probably the only way to be sure its working as it should be.

I ended up buying a new GSF WUR for the peace of mind - although it was a year ago I don't remember it being as much as 200 quid, more like 150?

Anyway, as far as I can make out there is no difference between the GSF one and the one VW will supply you. They are both original Bosch units (my GSF one certainly was), and the one I got looked identical to the two other old (duff) ones I had.

Apologies if thats all a bit vague, but it was over a year ago now and sadly I've hardly had any time to work on the car since  :|

Cheers,
