Cabby exhaust noisy - but no hole??

I recently bought a MK1 cabriolet

I know this sounds stoopid but the exhaust sounds really noisy (from the rear end) but I cannot find any hole or leak.

I took it to an exhaust place - they put it up on a ramp - and they could not find a leak.

Has anyone any ideas what to do next?

cheers

Straight through rear silencer or maybe the baffles in the silencer have gone, did a mk2 the other day which was loud but nothing was blowing, it was the baffles

I had the same thoughts about my Clipper (1800 carb). It has a sort of sporty/noisey sound that?s made atleast one passenger comment that ?the exhaust is blowing?.

It all seems intact and the rear box looks pretty new and standard.

Doesn?t seem to be in keeping with the Clipper ethos perhaps more GTI, but my tintop GTI is much more subdued.  Don?t think its with it being a cabrio, if anything its got more sound insulation than the tintop (with roof up of course)

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Yes - I thought it was something like failed baffles in spite of the whole exhaust looking good (would it be the back box only?)

btw the noise is not sporty - it's just headache inducing!

I've just installed a complete new exhaust on my BLACK SOY cab GTI and it sounds like its got a leak but it hasn't - does do my head in though as I like the cab to be nice and quiet…
