Broken fuel pipe

the voltage going to the pump was 9.6v continuously so haven't rewired it, is this the correct voltage?
alway, got the new pump on (without breaking the pump braket!! 8O ), but the fuel line going from the pump to the accumulator has sprung a leak

Crazyquiff, if ya see this, got one of your replacement pipes available? (FH220D)

Voltage sounds a bit low to me. You'd expect a good battery to keep the voltage in the car at around 12v. I'd check the reading at the battery, if it reads significantly higher, then you've got some duff wiring somewhere. If it reads the same, then check the charge in the battery.
9.6v is definitely too low for the pump to run properly in my opinion.
Mike.

Will do Rich, hopefully I'll have enough spare cash if I buy this other Mk1 tonight. if so will drop you a call
I checked the voltage at the battery (read 11.4v), I noticed that the voltage to the pump 'spiked' to 11v when I stopped turning the engine over.. maybe the starter motor is drawing too much or the battery has just had enough :dontknow:
can anybody confirm they're voltage to the fuel pump?
when I turned it over for the brief minute yesterday it sounded 100 times better and ran constant instead of intermittant

ah, yes I'd expect it to drop when you're cranking the engine, sorry didn't realise you were testing the voltage while cranking the engine. The starter motor will cause the volts to drop as it does draw a huuuge current, but it should recover as soon as you stop it, which by the sounds of it it is.
You say it reads 11v if you stop turning the starter, which is right because untill you turn the key to the off position after you've cranked the engine, the fuel pump keeps running. I would say you wiring is OK, and your battery is probably ok too. A brand new battery will normally read about 12.5v, but 11.4 is still ok. Below 11 and I'd be questioning it.

Cheers Mike, I should have really put a switch in to check the voltage properly
ops:
was good to hear the new fuel pump even for a few seconds, I'm hoping once I've fitted a new pipe it will finally idle!
I was also pleased to see that the fuel that came out of the tank was all clean! 8O half expected a load of bits to come out.
