BP ultimate/Shell optimax

Tried a tank of higher octane unleaded the other day. After just a few miles it did seem to be more responsive. I was convinced I was imagining the change in performance but after searching the forum there were quite a few folks saying the same thing! After reading others posts i realised that on the higher octane i could get away with advancing the timing back to 6degrees BTDC. After work today i got the old timing strobe out and set about sorting the timing with the help of this site found on here…

After a minor high tension shock :banghead: The job was done in minutes! What a difference! It feels so much more responsive now! Maybe I am just imagining it but it definately feels a lot better to me! I'd recommend spending the few extra pennies on higher octane fuel and getting the timing put right to anyone running 95RON fuel and 0 degrees timing.

yep, i got mine rolling roaded & tuned to that after i put 97ron fuel in.
Definatly feel the difference wen i use sluggish cheap 95 ron then top her back up with 97 again.
Really is a difference.
Will try 98 or above soon.

I filled up with superunleaded a month ago and noticed that the idle speed was slightly higher, thats it. IMO a total waste of money, nothing more than glorified marketing hype.

i topped up b4 i went rolling road then they tuned it for me.
it makes the wheels spin alot easier when accelerating for me.

I cant remember if it was top gear or 5th gear but one of them tested various fuels out on the rolling road, competely draining the tank in between tests, they did found that optimax produced the most power in the performance motor and modified motor iirc

I must admit I never altered any settings.

What happens if you're short of money and want go back to normal unleaded? Does that mean that you will have to adjust the settings again?

I'm looking at going in the other direction (cheap)by converting to gas.

not at all my friend, it just seems to be struggling alot more, and lumpy almost.

i sometimes go back to 95 if i havent got the money really, which is alot really.
