Another Fuel Line Q

I have about a 3ins section on one fuel pipe that is badly corroded and does need replacing.

Could I could it out and repair with suitable hose and jubilee clips??

Or would I need to splice a new bit of metal in.

Alternativel would I need a new piece from end to end.

I prefer option one for speed and to save the car being off the road to long, if I need to splice in a new bit of metal can someone tell me the sizes so I know what I've got to but.

Thanks in advance

You can cut a section out and replace with suitable high pressure fuel hose,  I would advise using fuel hose clips - This sort of repair is acceptable for the MoT

Cooler than a cool thing, will cut it out then, will the fuel injection hose that they apparently sell at Halfords be ok. OR do I need to know a specific bore size.

Woky, was that on a GTi as well.

Cheers guys, feeling better about this job already.

Fuel injection hose is fine and needs to have a bore slightly smaller than the metal pipe

For patching you need fuel pipe rated to : BSAU 108/2-L4/C4R SAE 30 RATED TO 12 BAR .

Sorry to be a smart arse but you must buy good quaility pipe and jubilee clips -the ones Halfords have that say "made in Taiwan" are crap -so buy the proper ones . Push at least 5 cms [2inches] over the old fuel line .

Oh and the size you need is 5/16"

I checked out a MK3 Golf fuel pipes and they are plastic and are also flexable. I going to measure the lengths next week. The plastic pipe is the same diameter as the MK1 steel pipes so they can fit inside the rubber mountings. On the MK3 there are 3 fuel pipe, 1 blue and the other two are grey.

Was the Mk3 fuel injected? My brother's polo has plastic pipe too but its a carb engine so the lines dont need to be able to take high pressure.

Cheers guys,

All Mk3s were FI so lines must be of a similar pressure.

I can now offer the two flexi lines at the rear of fuel injected cars,  repair sections for rear of the metal pipes with all fittings and a metal pipe repair section for repairing anywhere along!

Details and prices will be on my website soon!

Excellent Rich - couldn't have come at a better time for me as I think my pipes will need sorting in the next few months   .

With the loan of Wellsy's superbly crafted fuel pressure test gauge I now feel fully equipped to diagnose any fuel problem that comes my way

By the way I think you might have a broken link on your website for the 2nd fuel line picture. If you click thorugh to see the large version of the picture you get a file not found page  :D
