Alternative Warm up Regs?
Does anyone have suggestions on possible upgrades/replacements for the WUR on a dx engine. I've been told you can swap it with one from a mk2 16v, but are there any others that are compatible?

my boyfriend thinks xr3i (k-jetronic) is the same.could use this a replacement .

Search the forums, but I think there is an Audi model with a vacuum takeoff that is a direct swap and gives a bit more fuelling under acceleration.

There was the audi 5 cylinder WUR it is the same as the 16v I think so both should be fine, plus I think you would have little chance of finding an audi 1

A word of warning - do not change the WUR to an Audi or 16V one unless you have access to a pressure gauge to check the cold and hot control pressures are correct. In particular you could make your engine run too lean and therefore much hotter - not good.
Both the WURs you mentioned can be adjusted to correct pressures for the DX engine with a little care and practice.
The Audi (I think the 16V) one has a vacuum take off pipe which acts as a fuel enrichment device. It works by the fact that when you stick your foot down the plenum chamber experiences -ve pressure, hence the vacuum to the WUR drops, which causes the control pressure in the WUR to reduce which allows the metering head plunger to move a greater distance for the amount of air that the engine is drawing, hence a richer mixture. The vacuum soon returns to the correct level and therefore so does the fuel/air ratio controlled by the WUR control pressure.
