Alarming smell of petrol!!

I've been out it my GL today and we are getting wiffs of petrol.

Not coming from the engine bay but up the back.

Tank is pretty much full but I didn't notice it last time?

Any ideas?

Probably not normal *shrug* Can't see anywhere it *could* be leaking from. But no drips I could see tonight ill check tomorrow morning for signs on the ground…

check that under the offside seatbelt mount the filler neck hasnt rusted through the top of the arch,

this may be causing fumes to come in

Check the 'O' ring where the fuel sender fits (later Cabby GTI version shown with lift pump)
I've replaced mine twice and still get a slight leak (can see it) when the tank is full - no smell when down to 3/4 tank…..gonna replace it again with a smear of oil on it - it keeps twisting as I tighten the fuel sender flange. 'O' rings available from VAG.

Owning a Mk1 cabby is a vertical learning curve…
