Where do you work, if everyone is scared to change an accumulator?

Not a big job at all - it's easy enough to do on the floor with the car on axle stands.

You'll need a 17mm and a 19mm spanner for the fuel lines, something to catch the fuel in (some will spill out), and a 10mm socket for the bracket that holds it to the body.

You may find the bolt that holds the accumulator in the bracket has rusted and won't budge - if you have a replacement bolt and nut then just cut it to release the accumulator.

No smoking while you're doing it btw ;)

When I had to do this the fuel lines to and from it were so rusty that they just wouldn't budge, ended up replacing them as well in the end - they were ridiculously expensive from VW when I did them, but I think Crazyquiff sells them now…

Good luck

Cheers,

don't start unti you have the connecting line to the fuel pump and the associated bolts.  (see above) will save you a whole pile of grief trying to budge bolts that have been exposed to road grime for 20 yrs.
