4 Branch Manifold

Hi all,
i am after buying a 4 branch manifold for the citi, problem is i am confuised as to what to look for as they are all different plus which one i should buy.
Also would rubber gaiter on the steering rack be a problem as regards to being burnt from the exhaust when it is fitted
Best wishes and thank you :D

I went the most expensive way i could with this . I got a supersprint stainless 4 branch . main reason being for the same points u have raised , fit and clearences etc , plus obviously power gains etc .
I only had 2 issues with it .

one was getting all the exhaust pipes on to the studs for the cylinders .
all the branches are seperate on the supersprint and could have done with having a mounting plate rather than 4 seperate pipes .

if you can see what i mean in the picture .

the second issue was the gaitor on the steering colom . i assume that the supersprint was designed on a left hand drive car being italian n all so there was a slight problem here . luckily loosening the engine mouts gave enough movement to the n/s to give a 5mm gap between the two so i could smother the 4 branch in lagging .
i then found some sheet lagging and wrapped the gaitor in this .

all is ok now .

Hi,i would dump the carb first, the S.A carb is poor so if you want more up and go get a webber for it,the manual choke is already there
or drop in a 1.6 carb engine, will go straight in,i was going to do this with my citi as its underpowered with the air con turned on,but the miles i do in the citi it wasnt worth all the effort, plus its cheap tax

The kiehin carb is brill on mine, plenty of power for a 1.3, i am well happy with it, but like you say, cheap on tax, but i thought putting a 4 branch would make a difference, as i dont like the manifold with the c clips has it sounds as thou it is leaking even thou it is not, but it is slighty rusty and by replacing with a 4 branch and no joint on manifold it would be quieter or am i talking untter rubbish now lol, need guidance on this.
Is there any other way of quietening the exhaust or is this a common thing on the citi's, as i dont have this problem on the c reg mk2, i really am not bothered about power just a nice quiet exhaust, engine runs true and smooth.
You lucky bugger, i dont have aircon on mine
best wishes

G-Dub how much of a noticable power gain did you see, just from the manifold? Or was it fitted with a lot of other mods at the same time. I'm contemplating, splashing the cash, but not sure if its worth it. Hoping it might make my full s/s magnex sound a bit throatier cos at the moment i think it sounds a bit pants.

they say with a full system you se UPTO gains of around 12bhp wich isnt a great deal considering how much mone you will be spending, but i found with a few that have full systems with 4 2 1 manifolds on do sound diffrent as the gasses can flow alot more freely.

i always have the last laugh ;)

What parts will i need to replace if i remove the original exhaust manifold, as i feel it is slighty leaking, this would save me money plus like i stated before power is not important, but a quiet exhaust i vital.
Any part numbers and would you recommend gsf or stealers?
Thanks again

ive got one and the the rubber rack cover did cause problems!!! so much so it caught fire  8O

i tried adjusting my engine mounts  but to no avail  :banghead: so i just removed it

it is also advised to use exhaust wrap as the manifold kicks out some mega heat

Ashley do a great 4 branch for the 1.3 engine , i used to have one on my mk2 polo and it revved out alot better .

If u look at a dyno read out the 4 branches tend to widen the power band , and give a slight increse in top end bhp .

Peak power is how much power the engine can possibly make . so for instance a car may have 400 bhp at 6500rpm but make hardly any power before 3000 rpm . this dyno graph would look very flat and then peak right at the end .

I`d rather have a car with 200bhp but produced power from 1500 rpm round to 6500rpm , this graph would show a steady curve all the way up to peak power . This car would be alot more driveable , and this is the kind of power curve improvement  you would expect from a good exhaust . to assume putting a 4 branch on will bump bhp from say 100 up to 115 isnt very realistic , it will probably add at most 8hp but spread it through the rev range , improving mid range and add a couple on top .

When i installed mine it was inconjunction with other mods but i know if i hadnt done it at the time id still want one . im sure you all know what i mean .
