4 Branch manifold fitting

Hi all,
        Bought a four branch for the 1.5 block, hear about studs etc snapping.
I am planning on cleaning most of surface rust from studs etc and soak them for at least 2 days whilst still attached to the block with wd40 before i attempt to remove them hopefully not snapping any.
Would this be the safer way?
If one does snap, how is this removed and what else would it entail.

Ive got a hot spanner so im ok,heat is the key,if non avaliable,use gentle persuasion,dont go mad,take time and might be ok,if 1 does snap and its not flush with the head,a stud extractor may get it out,if not drill and tap   8O

Cheers bert,
                  Not planning on rushing it as i know that can cause further problems.
Will buy a little blow torch to apply heat, even if it takes me an hour for each stud, so be it, it will save alot of hassle as i found out from other members.
If by chance any do snap, are they available at dealers fella

your good to me :wink: was thinking may a stupid idea but what about cutting the nuts off with dremmel and refit new one, NO?

It's worth buying a decent blowtorch which can chuck out some serious heat. I bought a cheapy one which burns butane/propane mix, and it was rubbish.

What I should have bought was an acetylene one with an automatic spark built in, so you just squeeze the trigger and it lights instantly. One of these is just the job.

I've never snapped an exhaust stud bolt (well once, it was trashed anyway). The trick is to use a well fitting socket (6 side, not 12 side), plenty of Super-Crack or similar, and to turn the nut back and forth, gradually loosening it over several steps. Also, while its stiff, but once its been moved from its original stuck position apply more super crack.

Another tip is to turn the nut the wrong way initially (ie tighten), to break the seal on it.

Well good news for me, did take advice on board, soak them over night in wd40.
Used a 12 6 sided socket and turned slighty tightening the nuts, then gently undid them, all came off smooth even thou the whole bolt came out as the nuts were locked tight which helped undoing really, so happy chappy
Ordered some new bolts and nuts from gsf, collect monday and then get fitted.
In mean time need to find a piece of exhaust 45.6mm thick in order to fill the gap between manifold and centre box, hopefully find a piece on a bigger engined car in scrappies tomorrow.

Forgot to update, i decided not to fit 4 branch, went back with the original manifold, sanded it down and painted with heat resistant paint, fitted new studs to the block and nice shiny brass nuts, new exhaust manifold gaskets and down pipe gasket.
Well happy with results, nice and quiet, thanks again to all that gave me top information and enabling me to complete what i set out to do, big thanks
