1985 8v wont start no fuel or spark

Hello to all who are willing to help this is my first post here but i've always used your guides to help in the past so i know the answers out there somewhere. I have a 1985 convertible gti which wont start under normal ignition conditions. Its sat on someones drive for four years and was sold to me with the story of it had a malfunctioning cheap alarm immobiliser, and the roof has been cut so obvious damage. Ive removed it to eliminate from the equation the engine will now turn every time on the key but gets no spark and no fuel pump prime… However in a way of trying to eliminate parts being broken i took a wire and connected it to the positive side of the coil and put the other end on my battery. when you do this the fuel pump makes the sound as if its priming but ive taken the fuel line off the filter and yoou get no fuel just hear some air (it has petrol in) but you do get a spark and you can hear the dizzy clicking? If i jump this wire on and off of the battery while my mate turns the ignition it will fire (generates a spark which ignited the fuel i poured into the fuel filter) but not run? i'd really appreciate any help and test you would be willing to offer me :)

Many thanks Jason

first problem i suspect is the black wire from the ignition switch to the fusebox, i bet this was chopped into by the alarm. this is what supplies the coil and fusebox with ignition power.

next problem i suspect lift pump has packed in, take a wire off the main pump and repeat your tests, you should hear the intank pump prime.
