1.8 GTi downpipe needed (mine just snapped)

Hi,

Anyone know where I can get a 1.8 GTi downpipe (6 bolt not the clip jobbie)?

Mine snapped today just as I was driving past a speed trap    Luckily there's a good tyre and exhaust place right where it broke so I drove straight in just as they were closing. Up on the ramp it was obvious that the downpipe has sheared just below where it bolts to the manifold. But I don't know if they will be able to source a replacement downpipe.

Also the car has a tall block 2l bottom end - any tips that I can pass on to the garage to stop the same thing happening again?

Cheers peeps

Anyone know if the downpipe is available form motor factors? Or will I likely have to source one for the garage?

Found one here http://www.vw-bits.co.uk/downpipe.htm

I got mine from either GSF of eurocar parts. I can't remember which one. Beware though, as the manifold studs will more than likely snap as you are undoing it. These can still be sourced from VW I think.

ECP have no stock but GSF list 2:

21238 EXHAUST DOWN PIPE  G1 GTI/GLI >7/83  ?39.90
21248 EXHAUST DOWN PIPE  G1 GTI/GLI 8/83 >12/83  ?31.00

Presume the ater part is the one with c-clips.

Well I got the new downpipe fitted but now it hits the floor every time I lift off a bit suddenly or start reversing. It's going back to the garage tomorrow to see if they can jiggle it around a bit.
