1.6GTI metering head vs 1.8?

Read somewhere that the 1.6 GTi metering head is better somehow, flows more, is this true?

I may be wrong but am sure that the K-Jet systems on the 1.6 and 1.8 are identical!

You're not wrong, Tim Stiles claims that the 1600 metering head has better fuel flowing in his recent Golf modifying book - not sure why. The metering heads did change during production (early ones do not have the four hex head adjuster things).

so.. would a 1800 metering head work fine on a 1600 engine?

was going to use a spare I have which is from an 1800 while I clean up my one but if it's possible it'll cause problems I won't bother  :?

According to Autodata the 1.6 GTI runs lower fuel line pressure than the 1.8 so I'm guessing the 1.6 metering head is calibrated to let relatively "more" fuel through.

Bear in mind though, if you simply increase fuel pressure - all you are going to do is hold the injectors open for longer and thus overfuel the car.

What you need is a rolling road and gas analyser plus someone who has all the various springs to recalibrate K-jet for you.

Out of interest, what engine are you running at the moment and where are your problems/flat spots?  Might be easier to wire up a floor switch under the throttle pedal to switch in the fifth injector at full throttle - all depends on what the car is doing and where it is down on power I suppose though.
