Wipers and heater not working HELP!!

Hi all, I have recently found that my wipers and heater on my Mk1 Golf 1.8 GTI cabriolet aren't working. I have checked and rechecked the fuses but they are completely fine.. anyone know the cause and whether it is a simple fix?

give relay 17/18 a good wiggle about in the socket with ign on and wipers switched on. if that doesnt help pull the ign switch plug and bridge the red wire to the black/yellow see if that kicks them into life. if that helps your ign switch is dead, if not its the black/yellow wire or relay

Thanks I have it sorted now, had to replace the relay. I had no idea the heater and wiper blades were running off the same one strangee

They are both on a relay due to their heavy current draw. 

yeah the 17/18 relay turns off power to a lot of stuff while cranking so you get max power to the starter. the wipers have their own control relay as well, just power to them is cut by the x-over relay 17/18

Sorry to bump such an old thread but I have the same problem which also includes no stereo.

Could this be the same relay and if so do we have a picture of which relay I need to replace (as in where on the fuse box)

and second to bump an old thread I've got a similar problem with my s1 no blowers, wipers, or rear lights???

could this be down to a faulty relay also? I've tried a wiggle of all of them and all the fuses are intact, what relay should i be looking at changing?

did you try the ignition switch bridge i mention in my first replay? if that helps you need a new ignition switch, if not trace wiring from it and try another relay

now replaced the ignition switch and wiper relay and still to no avail, any other thoughts before i have to hand it over to someone who can check with a tester etc to see whats getting/or not getting power.

did you try jumping the wire as i said earlier?
