The wiper motor on my MK1 Golf GL has packed in and needs to be replaced.. I am really struggling to find a replacement.
Does anyone have any suggestions of where to look?
Any advice would really appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I don't mind, just need to get it working again asap..
I'm not doing the work my self, the car is currently in the garage and the electrician phoned to say he can't find parts anywhere.
Is it pretty simple to replace with a MK2 motor? I could suggest he orders one of these?
Thanks for your help

Straight swap but need to cut the wires on your loom and the mk2 loom as its a different plug.

I did this to mine in December (S/H Mk3 and crimp on spades) easy to do takes 15mins.
Big improvement! I got mine free but you can get them for £10 quid easy.

Thanks for all your feedback. There is also a problem with water corrosion in the fuse box in the car. Can use the same solution to this problem - ie. a fuse box from a MK2 or MK3?
Thanks again,

ps. very new to Golf electrics so sorry if questions have obvious answers!

pre-90 mk2 is same as 83 onwards mk1, i.e. the blade type fusebox not the early ceramic fuse

Was it definately a MK3 one as the part numbers for the MK2 and 3 ones are different.

I took It off the car myself definitely a mk3 golf. You cant use the mount for the mk1 but it works fine without the mount.

Does this require any different mods to the MK2 one to make it fit the MK1?

yeah after a lot of digging in etka the mk2 unit is a different number to the corrado and mk3. but I dont know why exactly this is, if it was just a better unit generally vw will just replace the older part (the mk2 wiper motor has replaced the scirocco unit) so I wonder if it has a slightly different sweep area or something.
incidentally, the mk3 motor is also the same as early mk4 golf! but watch out as the mk4s have a missing wire to the motor, so make sure the motor you pinch has all the terminals in the socket. its only listed for 98-01 golf/variant, but listed for 99-10 beetle. also for 91-04 transporter, 89-96 corrado, 92-98 golf/variant, 88-97 passat (variant just means vento, bora, estate etc)
there are lots of numbers for both! MK2:
192 955 113 a ← mk2 part
251 955 119 ← ??
corrado/mk3/early mk4:
702 955 113 a ← ??
535 955 119 a ← corrado part
1h1 955 119 a ← mk3 lhd part
1h2 955 113 a ← mk3 rhd part
1h2 955 113 b ← mk3 rhd part
1h0 955 119 ← mk3 part
1j0 955 119 ← MK4 part
1c0 955 119 ← new beetle part

No mods at all, I took it off with the wiring plug from the mk3 and put spade connectors on, bolted to the linkage and plugged them into the plug on my mk1, leaving off the mount which is not on the mk3 motor as its on the linkage.
