What the hell is this and whats it for????
Can anybody help me? :dontknow:
I pulled out my dash to find this in here.
I have traced it to the footwell of the drivers side but not gone any further as I thought someone will know!
It wasn't connected and this was at the end of it.
Thanks :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

Based on the colours, it looks like the older style wiring for a built in speaker balance/fader control, which was fitted to some Mk1s. Only a guess though.

Its not VW stamped but looks old. I haven't pulled it to the route as yet!
The Connector was where I uncliped it but there is more.
Just thought I'd test a few brains…..I have NO IDEA wha it is.
I cant find my Haynes book of lies to check out wiring diagrams although I dont know where it goes!!!! :dontknow:

My Cabrio has dealer fitted lecy windows and central locking which uses connectors like that.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

To me it looks like the rear speaker wires.
Do you have one of these 'roller' type balance switches in your dash somewhere near the hazard switch? It will connect to that. The rear speakers only ran on 3 wires so a 'proper' balance couldn't be obtained. I re-wired mine so that I could get better sound and pulled that connector out totally. It should route along the floor pan on the off side by the drivers seat.

well the fact that the wire looks more like 240v multicore makes me think its an old stereo power plug.

Was it down by the lower right piece of carpet, just under the dash? I'll put my money on it having been chopped off or just unplugged from the speakers in the rear.
