What is a TCI-H unit?

Hello all.

I am currently putting a 2L 16V 9A engine in my golf and I am having a blond moment.

As I am using twin weber carbs I am not using the 9A loom or ECU, I am just using a KR Ignition Control Unit and it's loom. However I seem to have a plug hanging with no where to go.

I know it's called the TCI-H plug but I carn't for the life of me remember what it stands for, or what it does.

Help please

TCI-h = Transistorized coil ignition with Hall sensor

The above shows the TCi-H system for a a 1.6 carb, to give you an idea for your 16v.

Its basically an ignition amplifier. The ignition control unit is the ECU but it only says when to spark, the TCI amplifies it to the coil, so its a stronger spark produced.

For info, all TCI units are the same across pretty much all VW models which have them.

Nice one I understand now.

I thought it plugged into a sensor in the engine/dizzy or something not an independant unit.

Thanks everyone for the help.
