WEIRD REV COUNTER/TEMP GAUGE PROB
When I switch my headlights on my rev counter and temp gauge stop working
I thought it was the headlight switch because when I messed around with the dimmer switch above it the rev counter kept flicking back on
Replaced the headlight switch with a brand new one and still the same problem
:dontknow:

It sounds like an earth fault
Im no electric genius (useless comes to mind)but as the only link i can see between the headlights and rev counter/temp gauge is the instrument lights using the same earth
Fuel gauge still ok with lights on?
if you disconnect the instrument lights does it do anything?3 bulbs on back of clocks 1 black 2 white
When you first noticed it had you worked on any area of the car just beforehand ?

Just had a thought .
Does the headlight switch illuminate with the ignition on and the switch off?
On the headlight switch connector there is a brown earth wire going to the bulb, try disconnecting the brown wire.
Its a shot in the dark and should in theory not do anything ,but theory and Mk1 electrics dont go together it would appear
