and i am guessing this is the problem? I do indeed have a level sensor, i am guessing again this is the VDO thing and two wire plug on the header tank.
Now to find a number 43 relay……

Is it wired in the fusebox already or would it have to be altered? Sounds like a useful thing to have.

At 20?C - approximately 1000 ohms
At 60?C - approximately 250 ohms
At 100?C - approximately 75 ohms

Lee - thats what mine used to do sometimes, i had a loose wire of about one strand left, so have soldered the cable back onto the connector at the sender unit in the engine bay, i guess you might want to check the relay too (if you got one) and maybe give the connector a wiggle at the back of the gauges, mine needs it sometimes to get the dials working properly.

Could it be in moving the wire you inadvertantly stopping the short? In which case it'll be shorting on the bodywork somewhere.
