Temp Guage Problem

Im having a problem with the temp gauge on my 1982 Mk1 GL (1500). Basically ive fitted a new temp sender, just beside the block, but when its connected and the car is warm the needle doesn't move and the red light on the guage seems to flash intermitantly. If any one could shed any light on this it would be much appreciated, cheers

Hey,
first try making sure the crimp on the wire to the sender has a good connection, it also needs to earth through the body of the sender so also try to see if the pipe it screws into has a clean face so it gets a good contact.

you could also try earthing the wire that goes to the sender, this should swing the meter all the way over to the right I think. if the gauge inside doesn't move when you do this I'd guess it's either a broken wire or possibly in the gauge cluster itself, possibly somewhere like the voltage regulater - do all of the other gauges etc work? I think a faulty voltage regulater takes out a few other circuits but I can't remember what, might be fuel gauge?  :dontknow:

could even be the wrong sender though? I don't know if they're the same on all engines or not?

hope this helps!   :D
