Stereo Stereo

The front speakers in the door pods in my cabby arn't working and I seem to have a second set of very small working speakers further up the door that do work.

I checked all the wiring and even tried swapping the door pod speaker for the small one but still no joy. Does this mean the door pod ones need replaced or am I missing something as the small speakers have about the same output as a mouse's fart

I had a assumed that the smaller speakers had been post fitted but have seen them on a few pictures of late cabby interiors. Why were these small speakers fitted when there are larger ones in the door pods?

I'm confused

I think i'm right in saying that the late cabbys have A set of mid range (13cm) in the door bins and a 1" tweeter further up the door?  I rekon you must have a xover of high/low pass filter to direct the correct frequencies somewhere in the car.  If that's the case i'd recommend having a look at those.   Or even tracing the wires back to where the two sets of speakers join up.
Can you test the non working speakers in another car/home stereo to check they def dont work?

Yeah the small speakers are tweeters and are wired in parallel with the main 13cm speakers in the door pods. I've been playing with mine recently and had to solder the original wiring back together after it had been chopped about by previous owners. Dont butcher those tweeters, they are extremely hard to get now and cost ?25 each from VW, I may have had the last 2 available.

As the two tweeters work I think the 13cm speakers must be knackered unless the wiring has been altered.
