Starting issues
Got a problem starting the car that I think I know what it is but wanted to check if others agree.
I turn the key and rev counter flips to 7, the starter motor turns strongly, but she doesn't fire try, try , try again and eventually I get her going, now she's going, for the 1st 2 or 3 miles, she won't run cleanly (sounds like running on 3 cylinders) and if I stop she won't tick over, and I have a hell of a job starting again. Once warm everything is fine.
I think it's the coil, does anyone else agree/disagree? :dontknow:

Change the rotor arm , cap , and plugs and leads . Give the car a good service doing all filters . Run a good fuel cleaner through next time you fill up .
Do the injector test [search the site] and check the archive material on the site for potential cold starting problems . Bottom of the forum
Coil would not give symptoms you describe .
Cheers………..

is it points and condensor? if it is worth doing these, as these are suposd to be done every 10k if not before.
coil usaly breaks down when hot so i doubt its that.
do plugs rotor arm and cap and a good service, check your leads for them breaking down using a multimeter or u could just buy some more as these are always worth doing!

Had similar problem with a Vauxhall some years ago . I blamed the fuel system , like you do [ auto choke etc ] found out by accident that the dizzy cap had a large crack in it . Replaced job cured .

I was pretty convinced it was electrical, just thought it was the coil because of the tach bounching round to 7 and back.
