Speaker suggestions
Just wondered if anybody had any other suggestions/recommendations. I don't really want to go cutting holes, so standard size only please.
Thanks

They do lack a bit of base but are adequate for my purposes.

I'm not too worried about bass, as it's only gonna be used on the school runs and a general runaround for the missus. She doesn't need it super loud as she likes the sound of her own voice too much

dont mount 6X9s
they suck
you want quality then look at components.
if must mount crap speakers in the parcel shelf then buy a peice of MDF from B&Q a bit of wood for bracing and mount them in that instead.
any car audio shop will sell you accoustic carpet to go over the shelf.

jbl have a good reputation. and for good reason.
at present i have 2 10" subs with a couple of cones on the same passive cross over in the boot and set of 4" components in the front doors.
i say at the moment. right now i have 6 wires sticking out of the hole where a stereo should be a wire though the passenger door for one speaker the drivers door cable is on the passenger floor and the rear cabling in the rear footwell.
what i describe is what i had and what i'm going back to.
best advice is dont use the crap speaker wire you tend to get included with speakers. go to maplin and get low oxygen 30+ strand. the wire you get with speakers will loss current and distort sound quicker than a quick thing on a treadmill.
and the bonus is if you fit an amp you go back to maplin and get jacks and use the same wire as an RCD cable. (changing to the line out on the stereo obviously)

Only thing is are 6.5's abit big to try and find a home for in a mk1? Mines the base model and doesnt have doorcard bins or anything only 1 speaker mount in the centre console and 1 each side of the parcel shelf.

Agreed, I *had* 6x4 in the front, 6x9 in the back on a proper MDF shelf with acousticly clear cloth (All JBL). Nice punchy bass and clear voice dancing on your dash, just as it should be IMO.
If I were to make any improvement to that it would be a couple of 10's or just a 12 in a box, in the boot, with possibly a couple of dome tweets on the dash itself, but it didnt really need all that.
I also had a graphic equaliser for the rear, just for adjustment reasons really, no amps, just the internal amps and it sounded fine.

They don't foul and give adequate sound. If it's base you're after you'll need an amp I think.
