Series 1 intermitant wipe?
Hi, i own a '75 swallowtail and the wiper stalk has the intermitant position though once selected doesn't do anything, does anyone know what can be done to make it work, perhaps fuse/relay related.
Thanks

Always a way
Reading an old Haynes it says ' remove the link fitted on the fuze board' J31 on the wiring diagram and fit the intermittant relay see your local VW dealer for details [dated 1979] . So it will mean later S1's had intermittant wipe you just need the relevant wiring info . Sorry thats all i can find !
Any else help ?

Can't you just fit the intermittent relay from just about every other VW made until sometime in the mid 90's? This is what I did, although mine is an A reg.

I shall try this folks, it would be nice to have intermittent wipers. Specially as the weather is going to start drawing in now.

had the same prob on my driver, also wipers weren't stopping in the right place (annoying). Have changed relay and checked all wiring but never managed to fix until
recently washer jet wasn't working properly and tracked it down to switch in column - cleaned the contact points with fine sand paper. also checked spade connections at back of fuse board for poor connection due to age/rusting.
Since, my intermitent wipers work for the first time, they stop automatically where they're meant to, and i get three wipes when i pull the washer jet !!
think connections on the fuse board is the most likely, and possibly reduced current getting to the wiper relay for wash/wipe activation.
hope this helps
