replaced dash clocks now indicators stopped working

My brother has just inherited my mk1 and im trying to sort out some problems before the MOT.

The dash instruments (fuel guage, rev counter, all the lights) stopped working a while back and after adding extra earth cables, cleaning everything etc i decided to replace the clocks.

With new clocks all the guages etc came on but the green indicator light had a permanent half on glow. If you turned the indicators it brightened but didnt flash. The relay didnt flash, nor did the exterior indicator lights come on.

Previously they worked fine, just without the green LED in the dash.

We swopped the clocks back over but now its blowing fuses for the indicators.  The hazards would flash fine when we pressed them at first but now only the drivers side works.

Any ideas? Dodgy indicator relay? Faulty new clocks? Something wrong with the hazard switch?

Thanks

on the hazard switch there is a wire that goes from the indicator stalks to the hazard switch, it is seperet from the block connector, i bet u havent put that back on as i did the same!

Thanks for the replies guys. I went to my brothers armed with replacement hazard switch, relay and fuses and undid all the stuff my brother and friend had done replacing the clocks and hey presto it worked.

For anyone else with this problem heres what i did:
Replaced all the blown fuses. One had randomly gone on the cigarette/stereo circuit plus the indicator fuse.
Checked grounds in dash and on side of cylinder head.
Checked flashing relay (if hazards blink it works)
Checked contacts were clean on back on switches (hazards, fog and heated windows)

Put everything back together (including that little wire on the hazard SP :)) and it worked so cant put my finger on exactly which bit was at fault.

Only odd thing i noticed was the old hazard switch would randomly stop blinking the left side of the car then it would work again. I put this down to the fact i split it open by accident removing it a while back and lost one of the two springs pushing on the contact bar inside the switch. Maybe at times it only has enough force to contact one side, not sure but its the only answer i came up with. Replaced it and works fine now.

Just have a perplexing permantly on oil warning lamp now!
