Really oddd Problem with electrics!!!!!! HELp!

Nothing works on my GTI unless you turn the main light switch on and hold the indicator stalk in then the hearter and everything works as you hold the stalk in, some how this in tripping the main power??? it also works when the ignition is off?? i havent had the GTI long and i have just restored her so i have big problems can anyone help? just swapped a mark 2 early fuse box into it as they are the same and its still happening??

Have you checked the bottom of the ignition switch?

Yes all the connections are there under the ignition place....
