Origanal radio
A Question for the experts I have a 1982 golf gti 1600. Does anyone know what radio is ment to fit the car, as its never had a radio fitted still has the 4 pin conneector ware the radio is. May seem strange but I dont realy want to chop the conector off, I would rather keep it origanal and have a straight plug in radio.

They apparently didnt come with a radio as standard but was an optional extra. You can still get original dealer fit ones from ebay and sometimes luck at scrap yards helps.
Think they were mainly Blaupunk and Phillips in the mk1s of the 70s and 80s.
Ebay probably about ?40ish and if you lucky at a scrappy ide say bout a tenner :dontknow:
try this

I belive the dealer option for mine was a Panasonic. It was approxmatley ?400 optional extra as shown on the original bill of sale. It also came with a seperate amplifier that was fixed under the dash near the fuse box.

My mate has got a propper old skool one from his mk1, with a working cassette, fully working, he was gonna keep it for a restro, but looks like that will never hapen, i'll try and get a photo for you, the sound was amazing from it, just as good as any modern one.

Iv just took one out of my mk1, it was an additional extra. has a cassete too. gives the interior a really good original look, but im in the process of fitting a new one - difficulty with wireing!

Noticed the wiring very simple only 3 wires earth, live, alumination, and then the speaker wires. But theres no switched live so I would have to run a wire from the rear heated screen to use a modern radio. But would like to get a 80s style radio with a tape deck to keep with old style.
