One thing after another.....

Hi,

To cut along story short, l changed my tired mk1 1.6 diesel engine and fitted a lively 1.6 TD which with a little modification slotted in quite nicely.  :D …..That was the easy part…

Afterwards l found the manual operation system for my radiator fan had packed in, l`ve since redone the wiring and it`s now working…  :)

l`ve now had my mainbeam pack up….. ….l`ve checked all the connections, bulbs, earths, switches, relays,  fuses, fuse box and they`re working okay, what l have found is that there is no live feed to the mainbeam, the side lights and dip lights work, the column switch is okay, and l`m now at a loss…. :dontknow:

Besides redoing the wiring, fitting relays and using a manual switch to get them to work, does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be…. :banghead:

hopefully someone may know…..

cheers

Get back in that fuze box , are you sure you have power to the relay ? If so do you then have power toward the lamps , are you certain that a fuze is not to blame ?

checked it again...

hi chudd,

Thanks for getting back to me, Since your reply l`ve checked the power supply to the fusebox, it`s okay the relay is working, you can feel it click on manually with your hand, ( l`ve changed it for a spare l know works just in case) the fuses ( numbers 21 & 22 according to the workshop manual) and wiring layout which l`ve followed from ignition- dipbeam stalk switch-fusebox-headlights seems to be okay, l`ve changed things, without neither fuses being blown at any time.

There isn`t a power supply to the headlights from the fusebox though but
l found the relay spade connections, and inside the relay itself oxidezed possibly from a previous water leak…so could it be the fusebox itself that`s gone faulty…?

If that`s the case, l have a complete mk2 wiring loom and it`s fusebox which was working okay and that came with the engine l`ve fitted, maybe fitting that may solve the problem….?

The fuse box wiring fittings are both different, or l`d swap the boxes over saving myself some hassle.

Any more thoughts….
cheers

The caddy saga goes on....

l was driving home the other evening as the daylight started to go with no lights turned on, and was in traffic when l had to brake quickly, l noticed that my front o/s sidelight light was reflected in the rear window of the car in front, l checked it again at home and sure enough it did light up when the brake was pressed, the brake lights are working okay…..and now this is happening ?  :banghead:

if it was previously happening l didn`t notice, or could it be that there`s more trouble brewing because of a short somewhere..?

Rear brake light bulb or bulbs are faulty or rear bulb holders corroded .

It shares the bulb with the side light and whats happening is when you brake its sending some power down to the side light .
