Oil Pressure Switch - What Relay???
I have a 1987 MKII Golf engine and dash console inside a 1983 MK1 Golf chassis. It is all wired in and working fine except for 1 thing. When removing the engine and dash console from the MKII chassis I forgot to grab the relays that lay inline between the oil pressure switches (1.3 bar and 1.8 bar) and oil warning lamp/buzzer.
The symptom of this is that I get a constant warning buzzer and light (obviously) even though the oil pressure is actually fine.

So please is anyone able to tell me what two types of relays I have to get hold of and wire in between the block and the dash? :dontknow:
Extra Information
The two pressure sender units sit at the rear of the block head just underneath the air box.
A simple female spade connector fits on each of them.
Resistance is held high when pressure is low (engine not turning) and becomes high when pressure reaches 1.3 bar or 1.8 bar respectively (engine purring).
To fit a MKII dash console inside a MK1 dash is an easy job if you have basic knowlege of working sheet metal to a high degree of accuracy. No welding was required either!
THANKS PEOPLE! As soon as I get an answer to this my baby is going through the MoT! Martin

Firstly have you checked the pressure using a guage ?
No relays are used on the oil pressure system please read :
Quick, simple diagnosis of Dynamic Oil Pressure Warning System by symptom.
Assuming your engine has oil and hasn't yet started knocking, most likely causes of oil lights/buzzers are in the warning system itself.
1) 2 seconds after 2000 RPM or more, light and buzzer come on, replace the high pressure switch.
2) Oil warning light on at idle, especially when hot, replace the low pressure switch.
3) No oil light blinking with key on, engine off, replace low pressure switch and/or repair light in instrument cluster.
4) If these quick tips fail to address oil warning light/buzzer issues then its the clocks that are faulty . Check with a mechanical guage .
I have carried out MK2 clock replacement on my MK1 [info at the bottom of the forum] and found the buzzer to be very effective at pinpointing problems with the engine but have also found clocks to be at blame .

The 1.8 bar cable is disconnected!
I am very confident that the engine and sensors are working fine because the car it came out of was in amazing condition and running so fine with a full service history. The swap was a stress free process with no hold ups or damage.
Do you think if I just run a cable straight from the 1.8 bar sensor to the 1.8 bar input on the console it will work fine?
In other words does the warning light and buzzer sound as a result of either channel not getting the appropriate signal?

Solved!
Hence I was heading down a route of trying everything apart from just connecting the 1.8bar with a new wire in the engine bay. Doh!
But yesterday morning I popped into the garage, ran a wire straight from the 1.8 bar to the dash and voila. Worked like a treat. Although I have to say it was not nice having to take the dash console out yet again!!!
