oil light!!

Rubjonny ?,
I have another problem that's electrical(?) with the Gti.
The previous owner and I found the car has had a flickering oil warning light, and, sometimes its on and sometimes not. The engine is 100% fine at 81,000 miles and i have checked the oil pressure hot and cold with a professional gauge- and it was normal. The oil/ filter/pump have all been changed as a precaution -and its still the same. Sometimes if you started and then stopped the car several time it would go out and stay out, then could come on at random. The previous owner believes its a fault in the electrical system and I'm inclined to agree. Recently, despite me telling them not to touch anything, my local garage fiddled with things-and now I don't have a warning light come n with the ignition! It has flickered very faintly once but thats it. Though im am convinced the motor is fine I don't like not having a warning light! Can you advise please? Thanks . Marcus (again..)

There are two oil pressure switches - one on the side of the block and one on the oil filter housing. Have you tried changing these? They screw out so dead easy. Cost about 3 quid each so worth doing if you haven't already done it.

Thanks robin, I have changed the one on the filter but not the other. Will try that.

Worth a try, mate, seeing as it's so cheap. I'm no mechanic, but it fixed my oil light problem. Good luck with it.

Yes, I now know its a common fault,- but make sure it isn't mechanical just in case as its there for a reason! Any change in engine noise/feel? I bought an 8v which blew up just after the oil light and buzzer came on :(  which is a hard lesson. Still, hope yours is okay and its the dodgy electrics :)
