odometer not working

Hi my odometer on my golf mk1 gti does not work. The rev counter and speedo work fine just the odometer. Any ideas why it would stop working? and if i need a new instrument panel are they easy to fit?

The nice thing about this project is that once you get the cluster out of the dash, you can sit comfortably indoors to work on it.

Don't forget to carefully pull off the speedometer cable and the wiring connectors before pulling it out of the dash.
