No Power to coil!
Hi,
I just got my 1982 MK1 1.6 Gti this weekend, as i was driving it back the engine cut out at the top of a motorwa slip road!
When I got it off the bloke he told me if it does cut out, don't worry just wiggle the fuse box and it should start again……it didn't :x
So got towed home, had a poke around with the fusebox after reading some things on here, I think it must be the fuel pump relay after what various people have said on here, but would the fuel pump relay stop me getting power to the coil? Or could my problem be much worse and it be the immobiliser that is stopping everything?!!! 8O

Thanks for that but after a bit more poking 8O I found out its a problem with the immobiliser!!
There is a blue connector on the back of the fusebox that seems to be causing the problem. When I wiggle it or press it down the immobiliser light flickers, sometimes it says on perminantly other times it fickers dimly :dontknow:
Has anyone got any ideas where the immobiliser might be and/or how to bypass it?
What should I do
Oh an the fuel pump works cos i bypassed the relay last night and it came on but even with the ignition off there is 12v getting to the fual pump relay, that can't be right can it?
Cheers

your immobiliser can only cut acurcit, it is better to take the thing off.
so find the box for the thing, trace each wire back to where they go and you will see which ones brake the curcit, ther wi9ll be 2 wires that break 1 curcit,
usualy they go to you electronic ignition, (which yours does)
& starter motor
so trace wires and find where they cut curcit then re join

there must be a place where you put the imob key to turn it off, start there and trace it back

I have to press a button on the key fob first, this switches a green light on the dash, then i have to press the centre of the steering wheel to switch off the red flashing light that tells me the immobiliser is armed.
I'm gonna try to find where the horn connections are on the steering column cos they must have connected a wire to the horn cos there are only 2 wires on the button.
ARGHHHHHHH!!!
I just want it to work I have only driven it 40 miles!!!!
HELP!!!!!!

Right I've sorted the immobiliser i think.
The car now turns over trying to start but it won't fire up!
I have 12v to the coil the fuel pressure is good and there is a spark,
What else could there be?
I've put the battery on charge gonna leave it till tomorrow night but don't think that is the problem.
Any ideas? I'm willing to try anything…….once
