New loom?
Am about to start stripping down my Mk1 GTI and am wondering if a new loom is available from somewhere. I want to replace the orginial as it is 30 years old.

All the wires and metal parts of the connectors could be bought but some of the plastic parts are unobtainable, even from VW. So you'd need to make sure these were either undamaged, or hunt around for decent ones off different looms, etc. There's been talk of people making mk1 golf looms but nothing ever came of it.

So just make sure I keep the plastic parts. I'll take it out in one piece then also as would make it easier when making a new loom

I'm just about to make up my own front loom as the wires and connectors have been heavily weathered and there is oxidation (black rot) of the wires everywhere plus the 20 odd choc blocks i have found don't help.
You can get all the wire colours and connector spades from vehicle wiring products, which is where i usually get electrical stuff from. If you use a clockwork screwdriver you can normally get the spades out of the connector and reuse the connector if needed.
