Mystery component! Speedo related?
Hello,
I have a mk1 gti which is running a 1.8 16v kr engine using the original 1.8 8v gearbox. I've posted up about my speedo not working previously. Now ive had the clocks out and the speedo cable is connected up at the clocks and at the gearbox.
The other day i had to check the fuses for another problem and while looking i found this?
Now i had a chat with a friend who also has a mk1 gti and he says that this is not present in his car, so i am guessing it has something to do with the kr engine conversion. Was just wondering if it could have anything to do with the speedo problem as its marked up as vdo as are the gauges.
Anyways i will let the pictures do the rest of the talking.
Any help would be good.
Alan

No your speedo is a pure 'mechanical' connection. Basically it consists of a geared plastic wheel in the gearbox connected by a cable shroud with an inner cable. This in turn then meets with your speedo drive head (back of clock) where it again turns a gear in the speedo.

I have same excact plug in my 97 citi tucked away behind dash on the drivers side, it doesn't have anything connected to it, but as me wondering now, What excactly is it for?
The citi did come with immobiliser as standard, wonder if that may be it?
Mine was butchered by previous owner which i am not bothered about as i think they are death traps, think about traveling 70 on motorway and all of sudden car cuts out

On the Mk2 16V did the idle control not sit behind the ashtray, so maybe that's why

Is the idle control not done by the TCI then?
