mfa problems

hello all
i bought a mk1 with a 16v conversion a few months ago. had a lot of problems mainly with dodgy wiring resulting eventually with a dash loom fire. all sorted now after dash removal and new dash loom. auto electrican has sorted everything. all dodgy wiring both internally and engine wise. question is really: when conversion to 16v can consumption indicator at top of clocks be made to work? and can all fuel computer functions be made to work? my auto electrician is saying no. is this right?
